Al vanaf mijn 16e- ben ik gefascineerd door de roman Wuthering Heights van Emily Brontë. Ik heb de roman meerdere malen gelezen en ben vaak in het geboortedorp van Emily Brontë geweest. Dit dorp (Haworth) ligt in West Yorkshire (Groot Brittannië) en wordt omringd door de Yorkshire Moors. Ik werk momenteel aan een visuele impressie van dit boek. Mijn relatie met het boek ligt voornamelijk in het karakter Heathcliff en de overweldigende omgeving waarin het verhaal plaatsvindt.
Alhoewel Wuthering Heights vaak een liefdesverhaal wordt genoemd is het veel meer dan dat. Het is een verhaal over een jeugdliefde, verlating, wraak, de ‘human condition’ en sociale mobiliteit. De combinatie van de spirituele elementen met de mysterie van de Yorkshire moors maakt dat de roman uniek is en algemeen wordt gezien als een van de grootste in de Engelstalige literatuur.
In de loop van de jaren heb ik vele boeken gelezen over Emily Brontë en haar zussen. Als je meer wilt weten of je wilt een presentatie schroom dan niet om contact op te nemen.

As from the age of sixteen I have been fascinated by Emily Brontë’s novel ‘Wuthering Heights’. I read the novel many times and frequently visited Emily’s residential village of Haworth and the surrounding moors in West Yorkshire (UK). I felt I wanted to make a visual impression of my relationship with the book. For me this relationship mainly lies in the character of Heathcliff and the overwhelming setting of the story.
Though often called a love story ‘Wuthering Heights’ is much more than that. It is a story about juvenile love, abandonment, revenge, the human condition and social mobility. Combined with the spiritual elements that coincide with the mystery of the moors the novel is one of a kind and one of the greatest in English Literature.
In the course of time I have read many books about Emily and her sisters and their work. If you want to know more about the book or if you want me to do a presentation on the book please do not hesitate to contact me.
